Like all global cruise destinations, the Pacific and Australia each offer a vast array of cruise styles, itineraries and prices, so it's best to have a chat with your World Travellers expert to make sure you end up with the right type of cruise for you. However, here are a couple of pointers to think about:
- When you're cruising in the South Pacific, look for itineraries that spend as much time as possible ashore. The stunning lagoons closer in to the islands is where the real magic lies. Rent a dugout canoe or kayak, go snorkelling or enjoy an intimate picnic for two on a deserted island.
- If adventure is your thing, make sure you choose an itinerary that includes Vanuatu. There's abseiling down waterfalls, amazing walks and scenery, horse riding, spectacular diving and deep-sea fishing and even an active volcano that you visit and see up close.
- If you enjoy a bit of European culture, make sure you get to New Caledonia. Stroll past chic boutiques, sidewalk cafes, tree-lined squares and colonial architecture and sample the magnifique French cuisine.
- If you love dramatic scenery you can't go past Tahiti. By day, climb the gentle slopes of Mount Aorai, near Pape'ete in Tahiti, for great views of the island. In the evening, experience local culture with a Polynesian dance and music shows.
